In the Wild with Greg Wagner

Just a simple reminder that it is time for archery and muzzleloader deer hunters in the Omaha-metro area to apply for Gifford Point Wildlife Management Area access permits.

Gifford is a 1,300-acre Missouri River floodplain forest located 2 miles east of Bellevue Blvd. North on Camp Gifford Road in Bellevue, NE.  It sits adjacent to Fontenelle Forest.

Here’s a large map of the area and its habitat types from those fine folks in our wildlife division.

Applications for the access permits are being accepted through August 15th either across-the-counter at the Omaha Office of Game and Parks or at the Ak-sar-ben Aquarium south of Gretna and by mail through our agency’s Lincoln office. An individual has to purchase a deer hunting permit that would be valid for Gifford (e.g. statewide archery, statewide muzzleloader, statewide youth, Season Choice Area #21, etc.) in order to be eligible to apply. Click here to print an application form:

Two-hundred hunters will be drawn for access permits on or shortly after August 18th. Applicants will be notified whether they were successful or not in the drawing.

Need more info? Don’t hesitate to give us a call at the Omaha Office of Game and Parks. Our phone number is (402) 595-2144.

If you get drawn a permit, we’ll see you out there!
