ARBOR DAY: A TREE-MENDOUS TIME OF YEAR! by Greg Wagner

Nebraska’s own holiday – Arbor Day is just around the corner. It’ll be observed two weeks from today on Friday, April 30th at the actual home of Arbor Day – Arbor Lodge State Historical Park in Nebraska City, NE.

Now, it’s like I told my neighbors last night, Arbor Day is an ideal time of year for the homeowner to take stock of the trees on his or her property and to plan for the future.

That means it’s time to inspect your trees, to note any broken branches or to look for evidence of disease or insect infestation. It’s also an ideal time to think about how planting some new, native trees could enhance your property or provide wind/heat protection and help wildlife. It’s also an ideal time of year to talk to your neighbors about tree planting suggestions that they might have, or to take a trip to your local nursery or local Natural Resources District (NRD) Office to find out what’s available and to get some new ideas.

All in all, it’s a TREE-mendous time of year when the Arbor Day holiday rolls around.

See you out there, checking the chokecherry tree blossoms in my backyard!
