My wife of many years – Polly Wagner – says I have way too much of it. My line is: “I don’t have near enough of it, DARN IT!”

What am I referring to? Duct tape. Yep, good old-fashioned duct tape. It has so many uses in the great outdoors. So, I’ve come up with a list of possible uses of duct tape on your outdoor trips.

– Secure a rip in a torn shirt, coat or mend a broken strap.

– Patch a hole in a camp tent, portable hunting blind, pair of  waders, backpack, canoe or kayak, etc.

– Prevent cooler lids from opening on a float trips.

– Use for temporary repairs to vehicles in emergencies ( patch water hose, keep a bumper from falling off, etc.)

– Use for the emergency waterproofing of most items.

– Muffle a squeaky hiking boot or shoe, or make slick soles less slippery.

– Rewrap broken shoelaces.

– Serve as makeshift slings, stints or sprain wraps.

– Use as a reflective coating to create an emergency signaling device.

– Double as an emergency bandage or blister preventer (when hot, tender spots start on a hand, when canoeing for example).

– Create a temporary car or cabin window.

– Repair your sunglasses or fishing rod.

– Fold into strips and use to lengthen tent ropes.

HELPFUL HINT: To remove the stickiness of duct tape, try an adhesive remover like Goo Gone or WD-40.

See you out there, carrying duct tape on your next outdoor trip, of course!

My staff says the best use of duct tape is covering my mouth at times, what a minute here!

Don’t you just love that it comes in different colors now? My hard-used briefcase has a bunch of stylish black duct tape on it!
