In the Wild with Greg Wagner

SPRING CLEANING by Greg Wagner

No, no, no … You’re thinking the house or the cabin. Nah … It’s the time of year to clean out your bird nest boxes and birdhouses as winter turns to spring.

You may find that your bird nest boxes and houses were used in winter by some bird species, and perhaps mice, to stay warm at night. Just as we humans enjoy a clean house, tree cavity-nesting birds enjoy a clean house in time for their breeding and nesting season. This is also the time to put up new birdhouses and nesting structures. Whether it’s a spring cleaning or a new installation, both should be completed for our feathered friends by St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th. For more information about birdhouses and nest boxes, go here:

Happy birding! See you out there, doing your spring cleaning or installing a new place for the birds!
