ICE SKATING AT MAHONEY, WHO NEEDS THE OLYMPICS? by Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

Sure it’s fun to watch ice skating on NBC television at the Olympic Winter Games  in Vancouver, B.C. in Canada, but isn’t it even better when you can experience it yourselves first-hand? Yes! And, the place to do that with your family is at the covered, open-air, outdoor ice skating rink at the Eugene T. Mahoney State Park near Ashland just off of I-80 Exit #426!

The park has a large, manicured ice rink that remains available for skating on into mid-March, weather permitting, of course.  Hours of operation are Monday, Thursday and Friday from 4 – 8 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. People are allowed to ice skate on the rink during off-hours as long as they bring their own skates and acquire an admission wristband through the Administration Building or Kiewit Lodge in the park.

Reminder that all vehicles entering Mahoney State Park will need to have a current state park entry permit permanently affixed to their windshields.  A daily vehicle permit runs $4.00, the annual is $20.00. Buy your park permit here: https://ngpc-permits.ne.gov/NGPC-PS/faces/public/welcome

The admission fee for the ice rink is $2.00 per person and ice skate rental is $3.00 per person. Full concessions are available, too. Call (402) 944-2523 Ext. 7122 if you have questions or need additional information.

Have fun ice skating! See you out there on the ice, literally, ha!

By the way, as an added bonus, don’t forget about the big indoor Activities Center at the park (see photo below) which sits adjacent to the ice skating rink where the kids will also have a blast!

Special thanks to the great crew at Mahoney State Park for the info, graphics and photos!

Thanks Maxine. Remember, you can go back to your childhood (well, somewhat) at Mahoney State Park’s Ice Skating Rink! Hope to see you there!
