Warm up the vehicle, make sure there’s some bucks in your billfold, get the kids bundled up, and load the plastic sleds!  Because, it’s time to prepare to zing down those awesome, snow-packed runs in the northern portion of the Eugene T. Mahoney State Park at I-80 Exit #426 near Ashland, NE.  All you need on your motor vehicle to enter the park is a current, valid Nebraska state park entry permit. At the park, the daily vehicle permit for $4.00 can be acquired through the kiosk, administration building or at the Kiewit Lodge facility. It can also be purchased online here:

Mahoney offers three, fun sledding runs – two are roughly 300 yards long, the other is approximately 150 yards in length. You’ll have to bring your own plastic sleds, saucers or toboggans (no sleds with rails, snowboards or skis). The runs are open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and are lit after dark.  Remember, you sled at your own risk, so be safe and vigilant traversing the runs. Basic concessions (yes, cups of hot chocolate, candy bars, etc.) can be bought from the Riverview Lodge at the top of the hill of the runs.

Gracie loves her saucer!

For more information about sledding at Mahoney State Park, call the park directly at (402) 944-2523.

Happy sledding! See you out there! Woo-hoo!

Hey Wags…good work. My family has had some pretty memorable adventures in the snow at Mahoney over the years. Their sled run is a blast!

Thanks Jeff (a.k.a. “Rawly”). What fun it is for the Wagner family as well! Another plug to visit fellow Game and Parks outdoor experts Jeff Rawlinson and Aaron Hershberger on:

Hey Greg – I’ve had some fantastic times sledding with my nephews and nieces at Mahoney! Ran face-first into the bottom of my nephew’s boot one time years ago, but still finished ahead of him on that run. Ahh, the memories! Seriously, Mahoney is a super fun place to take the family and go sledding!
