Get the yard work done now, tell the kids to get their homework done in advance and plan to go to the expo! Not just any expo though – the 5th annual Missouri River Outdoor Expo being held this weekend of September 19 & 20  at picturesque, 2,400-acre Ponca State Park which is about a 2 hour and 15 minute drive north of Omaha along the Missouri River and just two miles north of the warm, friendly community of Ponca.

_JF12002Geared toward kids and families, but open to anyone, this huge-scale outdoor event will allow folks of all ages to sample virtually any outdoor activity. In fact, over 75 hands-on outdoor activities, exhibits, seminars and demonstrations are being featured at the expo!

Jeff Fields, Superintendant of Ponca State Park, says from kayaking to camp cooking, there’s something for everyone to try.  Fields emphasizes that the expo is designed to inform, educate and recruit new members into the outdoor community along with rekindling the interests of those experienced in the outdoors.

Other highlights of this year’s expo, include:

– Lots of Events about Hunting Dogs

– Live Animal Displays

– Missouri River Boat Rides & Tours

– Kids Climbing Wall

– Many Outdoor Cooking Demos

– The Shooter’s Village offering opportunities to shoot a variety of firearms and bows

– And, a life-size, 3-D Moose decoy on display

Camping for tents and self-contained RVs will be available for a fee at Ponca State Park, but expo goers are encouraged to come as early as possible to secure the prime first-come, first-serve sites. The expo is free of charge, except that expo goers and campers will need a valid state park entry permit affixed to their vehicle to enter the park. By the way, more than a dozen food concessionaires will be on site as well, so don’t forget to bring some money for snacks and a meal or two.
